Overview
Our client engaged us to capture aerial images of their property, replicating photos taken 20 years ago during a plane-based mapping project. The goal was to compare past and present imagery to observe how the land had changed over two decades and document developments across the property. This project required precise alignment with the original images to ensure an accurate side-by-side comparison.

Using modern drone technology, we recreated the original shots from the same angles and positions, delivering high-resolution images that showcased the property’s evolution. These updated visuals highlighted land improvements, new infrastructure, and changes in vegetation, giving the client a detailed perspective on the progress made over the years.

This project emphasized the versatility and precision of drone photography in replicating historical imagery, providing the client with meaningful insights into their property’s growth and development.

Approach
Executing this project required meticulous preparation to match the original images as closely as possible. We began by analyzing the 20-year-old photographs, identifying key landmarks, angles, and perspectives to pinpoint the exact locations of the original shots. Satellite imagery and on-site reconnaissance were used to determine the optimal positions for drone deployment.

Lighting played a critical role in ensuring consistency with the original images. To achieve this, we planned the shoot around the time of day and weather conditions that closely matched the light quality in the historical photos.

During the shoot, our team used GPS technology to position the drone with precision and capture each shot from the correct altitude and angle. Adjustments were made in real time to ensure accuracy, and multiple shots were taken to account for any variables.

Post-production focused on fine-tuning the images to ensure they aligned with the look and feel of the original photos, enhancing the comparison. The final deliverables provided the client with a clear visual narrative of the property’s changes, offering both a historical perspective and a modern overview of its development.
